Low Dose Naltrexone

What is Low Dose Naltrexone?

Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) is an emerging treatment with the potential to support immune function and alleviate symptoms of various chronic conditions. While naltrexone is FDA-approved for treating opioid addiction at higher doses, LDN refers to a much lower dosage—typically about 1/10th of the standard dose used for addiction treatment.

At this reduced dosage, LDN works differently, potentially modulating the immune system and reducing inflammation. Though still under study, many physicians prescribe LDN off-label to help improve the quality of life for patients with chronic illnesses.

Who May Benefit from LDN?

LDN is being explored as a treatment option for a variety of chronic conditions, including:

  • Autoimmune diseases (such as multiple sclerosis, lupus, and rheumatoid arthritis)

  • Chronic pain syndromes (such as fibromyalgia and complex regional pain syndrome)

  • Gastrointestinal disorders (such as Crohn’s disease and irritable bowel syndrome)

  • Neurological conditions (such as Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s)

  • Certain cancers (as part of an integrative care plan)

Because every patient responds differently to treatment, LDN can be compounded into customized dosages and formulations to meet individual needs. Even small improvements in symptom management can make a significant difference in the daily lives of those with chronic illness.
